Oprah had it going on today

Please don’t stop reading.

The show was about how important it is to know how animals are processed before they get to our table aaaand vegan diets. Oprah had Lisa Ling visit a slaughter house in Oregon and view the entire process. If you are able to, I highly suggest watching this episode when it airs again tonight at 11:00 pm.

It’s so easy to turn your head to the uncomfortable details of how the animal is killed and packaged. Being aware of the process makes you more appreciative of the animal you are consuming. A point made on the show was that if you are not able to handle or simply don’t want to know where the animal products come from, you shouldn’t eat it! Really, it’s just not right to take advantage of a product if you can’t appreciate where it came from. The animal had a life before it’s hindquarters came into your life and this should be acknowledged with every bite!

I wish that Oprah had scrapped the vegan talk and gone through the process of raising cattle all the way to the packing plant. The slaughterhouse might seem all nice and pristine but they don’t spend much of their life there - pull up in the trailer, go in, come out in pieces. It would have been a more complete story if they had toured a feedlot also and showed what all goes into developing cattle before they are slaughtered. That’s really where a lot of the animal rights activist spend their efforts because the cattle spend more time there.

Good show though. It will give you a nice glimpse of where your grub comes from.
